6 Signs it’s Time to Work with a Life Coach

I had someone on a coaching market research call comment that it was really nice to meet me and see if she wanted to work with me. When I mentioned that I offer free intro calls for that exact reason she said ‘I wasn’t sure if it was for me and I didn’t want to waste your time.’
This is something I see all of the time with my clients and potential clients. A fear of being an inconvenience. Not wanting to take up space. Being considerate gone awry.
I’m going to save what to do about that for another blog. Today I want to share signs it’s time to work with a life coach so you can know if it’s for you.
As you read through, if any of these signs make you go ‘oh that’s me!’, please book your intro call with me today! We can chat through what coaching can do for you, how it will help you reclaim your life. And I promise I don’t bite!
Struggle to Get Out of Bed in the Morning
I struggle to get out of bed for two reasons:
I’m not getting enough sleep. Which means I’m either not managing my time well enough to get enough time in bed or something is impacting my ability to sleep (or have almost eight month old twins and haven’t slept through the night in nearly a year).
I’m not looking forward to my day. Which means I’m doing something, usually a job, that is draining my energy.
The first time I worked with a life coach I set a goal around feeling more energetic. I ended up seeing a naturopath, being treated for messed up adrenals and could NOT believe the difference in my energy levels!
Being tired all the time is not something you have to live with. Neither is a soul sucking job.
A life coach can help you change whatever is causing you to struggle to get out of bed. Even if you don't know why yourself yet!
Settling for a Job or Relationship Out of Fear
Speaking of soul sucking jobs, when I lived in London I accepted a permanent role at the company I’d had a fixed term contract with because I couldn’t face job searching again.
I hated that job, felt sick to my stomach with anxiety going to work each day. I lasted four months before I quit without a new role lined up and was back looking for a job anyway.
Fear, avoiding discomfort or this is good enough are all not good reasons to stick with something.
I understand that there can be practical considerations (not everyone can quit a job without another one lined up) but there are always options that lead to change.
Struggling to Makes Decision about the Future
I’ve had plenty of conversations with clients and potential clients over the years about do I travel or do I buy a house?
Now either is a viable option, which is why the decision can feel so hard, and life coaching is a great tool to help you find your path forward. Emphasis on YOUR. Not what your parents want for you or what it feels like society is telling you is the right move.
Often our thought process is so crowded with what other people might think, it can be hard to hear ourselves. A great life coach will guide you back to yourself.

The Days All Blur into One
When the days feel long but the months fly by, that’s a sign of living on the hamster wheel.
Unique experiences is what helps you mark time. When the days are all the same, there is nothing to separate the days.
The question for me would be why is this happening?
Being in a business building season or closing out a big, career defining project might be all consuming and cause life to be a blur.
But if there’s no purpose or intention to the days running together, that’s a sign that you’re not in control of your life. A life coach can help you get back in charge.
You Can’t Keep Promises to Yourself
Back in September I decided to journal and do Pilates everyday for the month. I managed 25 days out of the 30. When I was pregnant, I wanted to walk everyday so I did.
This ability to decide to do something and just get on with it is not the norm (from what I observe, I’m sure I’m not the only person who can do it).
Whether it’s a lack of self trust making it hard to follow through or making promises you have no intention of keeping (joining the 5am club anyone?!), not keeping promises to yourself turns into a negative spiral. You doubt your judgement, you get self critical, you begin to view yourself as someone who can’t do things.
This can also show up as starting things with loads of enthusiasm only to give up within two weeks.
These patterns keep you stuck in your current habits. If you want to achieve goals, change your life, and start to thrive, its time to talk to a life coach.
Looking to Others to Validate your Choices
I used to find myself doing this all of the time when shopping. I’d be firing off photos and hanging around in the changing room waiting for a response.
I know my body, I know what clothes I like to wear, there was no need to outsource my decision to someone else.
It’s a false economy because it ends up being more tiring worrying about what other people think than just doing what deep down you want to do. So work with a life coach and save your energy for something more fulfilling.
The Real Sign it’s Time to Work with a Life Coach
I’ll tell you a secret. The real sign it’s time to work with life coach is that you want to.
Something whispers in you that it’s the move you want to make. You’ve had enough of your life as it
The trouble with desire is we often don’t have the guts to follow it unless we can rationalise it.
So the real point of writing today’s post is to give you something you can use to rationalise your desire to work with a life coach. Or to get that hit of recognition as you were reading which has allowed you to connect to that desire.
Either way I hope it's helped you to understand if life coaching is for you.
