We all crave a stress free life. Floating from one task to another. Getting what we need to done with plenty of time left over.
The trouble is we live surrounded by a message to do more.
(I even use to promote my productivity coaching around doing more with less stress).
Now I think that's a losing battle.
There will always be a new level of more to strive for.
There is no contentedness. There is no being 'done'.
That's the issue with planning. We're trying to cram more in. Maximise every second.
All that does is move us further away from that dreamy, peaceful flow we desire.
Instead we need to focus on sufficiency. What is enough?
Then our planning completely changes. It becomes a habit that supports us instead of something that weighs us down.
Planning when we focus on maximising time:
Overestimating how much you can do in a day.
Moving tasks from one to do list to the next.
Feeling defeated and not good enough.
Wondering what the next magic approach will be that will help you get it all done.
Planning when we focus on sufficiency:
Asking what will make this a satisfying day.
Understanding there is time for everything important.
Finishing everything you decided to do that day or week.
Feeling accomplished, motivated and capable.
Sufficiency is all about enough. Enough to have a good day. Enough to move forward. Enough to feel accomplished.
It tosses the eight hour work day out the window and asks what actually needs to be done today. This is how you eliminate a whole lot of fluff that fills in the time. The pressure is off!
This is the paradigm shift you need for your planning to actually support you.
This is the paradigm shift you need to actually feel in control of your time.
This is the paradigm shift you need to step off the hamster wheel and finally feel like you're getting enough done.
